Adult German Shepherd vs. a Puppy

We often get this question from people looking for a German Shepherd protection dog: “Do I need to get a puppy to have the dog develop a deep bond with my family?”

Many people mistakenly believe that only a puppy can become a devoted member of the family.  They think that adult dogs will remain loyal to their prior family and won’t completely transfer their affection and allegiance to new owners.  However, our customers are pleasantly surprised when their new dog gives himself completely to his new family after a few short weeks.

Keep in mind that police K9 officers never raise their canine companion from a puppy.  Instead, they receive a trained adult dog and, within a very short time, our out on the street patrolling together.  That bond, formed when the dog is grown, allows the dog to give his life for the officer.

When we select premier European German Shepherds we pick dogs that we know will easily adapt to a new home, environment and human family.  These very confident dogs, just like law enforcement K9s, become devoted, affectionate and vigilant family members.

We just received the following email message from a family who purchased one of our adult dogs only a few months ago.

I wanted to let you know that Ajax earned his keep yesterday in exemplary form.  Kirsten was home alone and noticed that Ajax was on high alert.  She thought he might need to relieve himself, so she let him out in our backyard.  Ajax went racing to the fence and began barking and jumping at the fence, just like the video you have on your web site.  When Kirsten looked out to check on him, their was a man leering over the fence.  Kirsten alerted the man in Spanish that Ajax was dangerous and he took off running down our driveway, never to be seen again.  By virtue of the man’s reaction, we presume he was looking into our yard for signs of an open door or something to steal.  Ajax did his job.’
