Time for a new pet?

There comes a point in every family where at least one younger member of the household will ask for a cat or dog.  Occasionally, this younger family member will ask for a cat and a dog…but for the most part, it is either a cat or a dog.  If a young member of your household asks for a dog, then it is important to consider what type of dog will work best for your family.  Trained German Shepherds often make wonderful pets for any family, due to their loyalty, intelligence, and tendency to become loyal family guard dogs. However, there are a few items that need to be weighed before you run out and buy your child a new German Shepherd puppy.

Look at the space in and around your home.  Will your new German Shepherd have enough space to run and play?  Will they fit into your home comfortably?  Take a good look at the way your family functions.  Do you have the time and commitment to fully integrate a German Shepherd into your family life?  Once you understand the quality of your family life, you can look for a dog whose personality is complementary.  Finally, talk with your younger family member about the level of responsibility that caring for a new dog or dogs requires.  If you feel that they can handle keeping your new family protection dogs happy and healthy, then it is the perfect time to bring some new four-legged friends into your home.
